Boot Speed of the eBox2300

We've found that using the eBox e2300 thin client on LTSP-5 on Ubuntu feisty, the booting is VERY slow.

here's some testing and comparing that I did:

Power-on to login prompt Login Method T-1220 eBox e2300
LTSP-5 Ubuntu LDM 93 284 213
LTSP-5 Ubuntu XDMCP 63 171 166
LTSP-5 DEBIAN LDM 53 118
LTSP-5 DEBIAN XDMCP 48 100
LTSP-4.2 XDMCP 32 41

Log Out, back to login prompt Login Method T-1220 eBox e2300
LTSP-5 Ubuntu LDM 29 109 48
LTSP-5 DEBIAN LDM 12 23
LTSP-5 Ubuntu XDMCP 6 8
LTSP-5 DEBIAN XDMCP 6 7
LTSP-4.2 XDMCP 6 10

All times are in seconds

Logout/Login in: This is measured as the time from hitting the last button in the Logout dialog box within Gnome, to the Login Dialog box finishing drawing on the screen. Basically, the time for one user to log out, and the system is ready for the next user to log in.

With LTSP-5, you have a choice of LDM or XDMCP. With LTSP-4.2, only XDMCP is available.

I've filed a but on Ubuntu's Launchpad site. Here's the link: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ltsp/+bug/97456
