LDAP used for authentication when running local applications

When running local applications LocalApps the system needs a way to identify the user sitting at the thin client. It needs this to get information about this user. Traditionally this was done using NIS, as explained in the manual for LTSP. NIS is gradually being replaced by other network user information systems like LDAP.
