LTSP By The Seaway - 2005

Agenda

This is the 3rd annual LTSP Developers Conference, taking place in Montreal, Quebec Canada

We have moved this meeting to Montreal because it coincides with the Ubuntu Developer Conference, and there's large areas of overlapping interest. The next release of Ubuntu (Code named: Breezy Badger) is scheduled to be released in October, and it will include LTSP. This meeting will give us a chance to help determine the next steps of LTSP and Ubuntu integration.

In the 4 day event, there will be 2 days of overlap with the ubuntu conference, and 2 days where we'll be able to meet independently of the Ubuntu meeting.

Topics to be covered (in no particular order):

If you have a topic that you are interested in, but it's not listed here, then please edit this page and add it yourself

Support - Taming the Tempest

  • With so many new developments this year (Muekow, 4.2, LTSPFS, etc.), we may want to take a few minutes to consider how best to handle questions from the community. A localdev or localapp question is going to have a very different answer in 4.1, 4.2, and Muekow...

Development Environment

  • LBE
We need to build more tools to make the building of local applications easier.

  • MueKow
See where we stand with this technology, and work on porting it to more distros

Local Devices

  • Hotplug
  • Block devices such as floppy, cdrom and USB memory stick
  • Cameras
  • PDA Syncing

Local Applications

  • Building applications for local execution
  • Launching the applications locally
  • Authentication

Documentation

  • We REALLY need to get the documentation up-to-date.
  • the documentation build system
  • Does the Wiki replace/enhance the documentation?
  • Translations

Security

  • IPSec
  • SSH
  • SSL
  • NX
  • We need to work on a simple encryption/authentication scheme.

Wireless

We've had the ltsp_wireless kit for years. So, it's sadly out of date. Now, with newer cards requiring proprietary firmware that we can't re-distribute, we need a method of allowing the sysadmin to generate his own image including a kernel and the required firmware.

Audio

With the 2.4 kernels using OSS, and the 2.6 kernels using ALSA, we really need to get it all figured out, and settle on a solid method of transporting audio over the net, to the client.

Misc

LTSP Beatification project, basicly something like LPP, but with long term maintainability
